I built Clever Dodo over 8 years ago and the tech I used then is not appropriate in this day and age where mobile and faster internet plays a major role. I've therefore had to rebuild the platform with a vision of providing a richer experience to our users but being the only person coding and designing this in my spare time, I've had to take out previous functionalities and offer only the most important ones. Fret not, I will re-instate the previous ones as I go along.

Lost functionalities:

  • Sending notification of new comments (DONE)
  • Voting
  • Display of user level/points
  • Ability to edit own posts
  • See your own posts on your MyAccount page
  • Login with Facebook (DONE)
  • Ability to change your user avatar
  • Follow a topic
  • Our shop

New functionalities:

  • Live notification (votes, comments etc)
  • Ability to upload images when creating a new post
  • Login with Google (DONE)
  • Use of Clever Dodo account and get access to different communities/forums (DONE)
  • New learning platform (courses/workshops)
  • Give community managers the necessary tools to moderate
  • Removed restriction on how many posts you can make (DONE)
  • Anonymous posting
  • Ability to create events/meetups for each community
  • Search functionality
  • See your user avatar in the menu for instant recognition that you're logged in and to access your MyAccount area

I have redesigned the site and merged several smaller sites into Clever Dodo in the form of communities. If you have any suggestions on other things to improve the site, please let me know. And if there's a lost functionality which would be really helpful for you, do tell me and I'll prioritise that work.

actually user profiles are seen on search engines. is it possible to opt out from your name being indexed by search engine? A delete button for answers. Ability to ask specific user questions

I'm afraid you can't do that. You cannot set specific parts of a page not to be indexed, either the whole page is indexed or nothing at all.

This is the reason we use usernames instead of your actual name over here. Usernames are supposed to be anonymous but if someone decides to use the actual name, then there's not much we can do about it. Note that this is a public forum, so users are expected not to post things they'd be embarrassed to show to other people. There's just one exception to this, if there's something really personal (eg domestic violence or embarrassing illness) that someone would like advice on, in this case, they can post as anonymous - a feature to be implemented soon.

We used to have a delete button and we're not introducing this back. People would comment and others would reply and then some time later, they would decide to delete their comment and this breaks the flow of conversation. You'd see a reply which doesn't make sense anymore because the person to which the reply was made has deleted their comment. We have this in our terms or use or FAQ page, that once you've posted something, you cannot delete it afterwards.

We do allow edits, if you wanted to provide more information in your answer or fix typos but that was abused as well. People would removed their whole comment and just enter "..." again breaking the flow of conversation. Edits will be allowed but it will have to be approved by a moderator to take effect.

On my TODO list is private messaging. So you'd be able to ask questions to specific users.

I hope that clarifies why things are the way they are :)

lol, thanks.

Btw you get points when someone votes on your posts (upvotes +1, downvotes -1).

And before you ask, downvotes are hidden as no one likes negative feedback but they are used to determine which posts should show first..

oh something else I need to mention, the way I have the communities set up is basically only AskTheMauritians one may have posts written in any language you want, all other ones should be in English.

There's reasoning behind this, the targeted audience for the other communities is international (mostly UK/US/Europe), hence any language other than English would not make sense for these people.

There's supposed to be a pinned post on the topic list page which gives you all info you need regarding that community but I haven't had time to write it down.

The website also uses markdown, so you can do things like link, bold, italics or images. The textarea should have an information text about this but again, I haven't had time to add this in. Just google markdown and you'll see the syntax, it's more for power users anyway, which you are ;)

May I edit your post to translate your french sentence into english on the exercise community?
